Mt. Satopanth, situated in Garwhal Himalaya, is technically moderate with a complex glacier approach, followed by easy angled snow slopes interspersed with knife edge ridges. Mt. Satopanth is the second highest summit in the Gangotri Group located in the remote Garwhal Himalaya Range separating the Gangotri and Chaturangi Glaciers. This is an incredibly beautiful point to view peaks of Thalay Sagar, Shivling and the terrifying granite pillars of Bhagirathi III.  Gaumukh, the mouth of the holy Ganges River, known as the most holy place in all of India, is very close to Gangotri make this expedition more than just a climb, it is a cultural experience unmatched anywhere in the world.

From a base camp at Vasuki Tal (4850m), a further three camps will be established on the mountain prior to the summit bid.  After approximately three weeks on the mountain the expedition will return to Gangotri and then back home. 

Route details and general observation 
The route on the glacier to camp 1 (5400m) changes every year and may require the use of fixed ropes and ladders to ensure safety as loads are ferried up the mountain.  Easy angled snow slopes lead up to Camp 2 at 6000m.  The initially broad ridge becomes narrow for approximately 300m before merging with the final summit slopes.  Depending on conditions, parts of the ridge may need to be fixed (300m of difficulties

Note: Processing of Application

It will facilitate processing, if application along with required documents is sent to the IMF, at least three months before the proposed date of arrival of the expedition to India.

IMF books the peaks (after finding all requisite information duly furnished) and once the fees are deposited.

IMF Peak royalties (fees)

The following peak royalties are charged for a group of 12 persons. An extra US$400 is charged for an addition of another 3 persons and the maximum admissible group strength is 15 excluding the liaison officer provided by IMF. 

Peaks up to 6500M and below: US$500 
Peaks between 6501-7000M: US$2000 
Peaks above 7001M: US$3000 
Peaks in Restricted areas: US$4000 

Other expenses: 
US$400 will be charged as environmental levy for each expedition 
US$500 will be charged for the Liaison Officers equipment

Daily Wages of Porters and loads to be carried

Expeditions will engage porters and HAP through the district administration or the government approved Tour Operators. Loads to be carried by porters’ up to about 10 Kms per day (may be more or less depending on height/degree of difficulty) and other conditions would be as follows:

2. Full wages will be paid to porters if expedition decides to have a rest day.

3. 50% of total wages will be paid to porters in advance and 50% on completion of task.

4. High altitude ration/clothing for porters will be the liability of the expedition team in direct negotiation with concerned tour operator/agency.

UTTARAKHAND (Garhwal / Kumaon)
No restricted area permit required for most trekking routes. Applications to be routed through ua – min 4 weeks in advance. Application will be processed in Dehradun/ Uttarkashi/ Joshimath/ Munsyari
Restricted Areas: Nanda Devi Sanctuary, Niti Ghati and Kalindi Khal in Chamoli, Adjoining areas of Milam Glacier
Permits for these areas are obtained from District magistrate’s Office in respective places
